How effective is Subacromial decompression surgery for shoulder pain?

My doctor said my tendons are being squashed by a bone and they want to shave this bone off to sort it out! More scientifically this is referring to Impingement syndrome and there is lots of debate about this condition, especially about the mechanical aspects of it. It is still quite common for surgery to be done and this is called a Subacromial decompression surgery But… How effective is Subacromial decompression surgery for shoulder pain?
