Biomechanics
Biomechanical assessments and Orthotics (insoles) are available at both of our Stoke-on-Trent clinics in Talke & Stoke.
Biomechanics Explained
Our Biomechanical assessments are available at both Stoke-on-Trent clinics and are 1 hour in duration. Bio means Biological, so your body, and mechanics is how it works mechanically, so alignment and movement. An assessment of this, looks at how you are aligned and how you move, to detect any abnormalities that could be causing problems for you. It is good for prevention as well as cure.
We appreciate that this something that you may not have heard of before, but put simply, a biomechanical assessment examines your pelvic symmetry, looks at your foot position, knee position and looks to correct these problems with exercises and orthotics (insoles). The reason that we do this is because some pains and injuries can be caused by biomechanical faults and these won’t resolve unless they are improved.
Other people have this assessment done to check their biomechanics before they ever get injured as a means to prevent injury in the first place.
As they say prevention is better than cure!
Orthotics (insoles) are devices that are designed to align the foot and ankle into the most anatomically efficient position. They are a Biomechanical medical appliance that are custom made to correct your specific foot imbalances. Our Orthotics (insoles) are custom made and they cost £150 for a pair.
Runners
Loads through your body in running are very high, so it is important to make sure that you are biomechanically sound as to prevent injury.
Knee Pain
There is good evidence to support biomechanics for knee problems. The knee is the main weight bearing joint in the body and so abnormal motions such as dynamic knee valgus (knee cutting inwards) can increase injury risk.
Tendon Injury
Tendon injury is often caused by abnormal or excessive loading and this can be biomechanical in origin.
Back Pain
Back pain can sometimes be helped with improving your biomechanics.

What are the benefits?
A biomechanical assessment can improve your mechanics, alignment and movement as to reduce the chance of an injury and are available at both clinics in Stoke-on-Trent
If you have tried physio or other modalities and your problem won’t resolve then a biomechanical assessment may get to the bottom of it.
From our assessment we write your orthotics prescription and they are made to your specific requirements.
For example; “People with a leg length discrepancy of more than 1cm have a greater prevalence of knee joint osteoarthritis”
(Harvey et al, 2010)
