Straight leg raise

Step by Step

  1. This exercise works your Quadriceps and hip flexors.
  2. It is a great basic low level strengthening exercise. It is usually performed in early knee rehabilitation.
  3. Like any exercise this should be pain free or shouldn’t increase existing pain levels, during, after and the next day.
  4. In either long sitting or lying down, squeeze your knee straight and pull your toes up towards you. Now while maintaining a straight knee, lift your leg of the ground about 30cm and slowly lower back down.
  5. For strengthening you should perform 6-10 reps to fatigue
  6. You should perform 3-5 sets with 3 minutes rests
  7. This session can be done 2-3 times per week
  8. For endurance you should perform 15-25 reps to fatigue
  9. You should perform 3-5 sets with no more than 30 second rests
  10. This session can be done 2-3 times per week
